Pets for Canvas — Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-09-04. This policy is written to be read, not skimmed. It is short because we collect very little.

What the extension does

It adds a companion pet and time estimates to your Canvas pages, and asks one question when you finish an assignment: roughly how long did it take? Your answers are combined with other students' answers to show everyone how long assignments really take.

What leaves your browser

When you answer the "how long did it take?" question, we send:

Two more things reach our servers as part of running the extension:

That is the complete list. Nothing else is ever sent.

What never leaves your browser

Your name, email, Canvas user id, grades, submissions, messages, discussion posts, and anything about other students. The extension reads only what it needs to run on the page: your course list and course details, assignment details, and whether anything is overdue (so the pet knows how you are doing). None of that is stored on our servers.

Your pet's mood, position, and name live only in your browser.

To keep your pet across devices, the extension saves a random identifier in your Canvas account's private app storage. Only you can read it. It contains nothing about you.

How answers are used

Deleting your data

Uninstalling the extension deletes everything stored in your browser. To delete the anonymous answers your device sent to our servers, email the address below with the device id shown in the extension's Settings section. We delete the device and all of its answers.

What we do not do

No accounts, no passwords, no Canvas access tokens, no tracking of your browsing, no advertising, no analytics beyond the answers described above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is posted at this address with a new effective date. Promises made here bind anyone who ever takes over this project or its data.
